Starmus 6/6

Ce samedi, Starmus étant terminé, je m'étais préparé à profiter du coin pour passer le temps (genre j'avais noté être en parachute tiré par un bateau, plonger avec des tortues, voir un zoo avec des vols d'oiseaux...) mais j'ai côtoyé des gens que je n'aurais jamais pu croiser autrement, idéal pour clôturer cette folle aventure !
Re-belotte à l'hotel avec le petit-dejeuner à volonté, et 'gratuit'. Quelques intervenants sont toujours présents, dont l'organisateur de Starmus, Garik Israelian à la table devant moi.
Laura dégotte ensuite une salle (une perle de débrouillardise et d'audace cette femme, Johnny m'avait prévenu) pour exposer son projet Brainlight qu'elle transportait en petit format. On l'a donc testé, tout comme plusieurs intervenants curieux (Elizabeth Blackburn, Robert J. Sawyer, Joel Parker et Kim H...) et il était vraiment intéressant de voir la répartition spatiale et la variation du flux électrique de chacun. On était assez sidérés de voir comme celui des conférenciers paraissaient calme comparés aux nôtres. Garrett Reisman (astronaute aujourd'hui directeur des opérations spatiales à SpaceX) est malheureusement venu un peu tard pour faire tester le projet à son fils.
A midi, on se dirige pour prendre un cocktail tous ensemble (Ilya, Alexandra, Bob, Johnny et Laura) quand Joel et Kim viennent déjeuner tranquillement. Ni-une ni-deux, mes amis étant toujours aussi amicaux les invitent à se joindre à nous, et ils acceptent pour notre plus grand plaisir. On en apprend plus sur leur vie, leurs métiers respectifs. On lance Joel sur une explication de la conférence de Penrose jusqu'à dériver sur le rapport abstrait des Maths et son lien avec la réalité (Le résultat coïncide-t-il par chance avec la réalité ou est-ce parce qu'il se base dessus? - j'étais contente parce que je suis enfin intervenue sur ce sujet alors que jusqu'ici je buvais les paroles de tout le monde tant j’appréciais le moment). On parlera également des nouvelles modes "bien-être" entre massages, méditation et pouvoir des pierres. Un déjeuner encore plus riche que prévu !
L'après-midi est calme. On s'installe dans le luxueux salon commun de l’hôtel et j'en profite pour écrire quelques cartes postales pendant que certains téléphonent, discutent, se promènent ou enregistre leur émission radio. Un musicien dont le nom m'échappe vient nous proposer d’écouter une de ses compositions au piano. C'était vraiment beau, mais on n'a pas vraiment pu en profiter car nous sommes arrivé un peu en retard. Mais il est temps pour nous de partir d'ici.
En sortant de notre déjeuner, Laura avait croisé Glenn Smith (à qui je dévoila mon tattoo de corbeau qu'il était curieux de voir^^) et l'avait invité à se joindre à nous le soir. On l'a donc retrouvé, accompagné de Lynda et David J. Eicher. Et moi je suis là, profitant de la magie des relations qu'ont tissé mes amis ! Ilya et Alexandra nous offrent du cuire de fruit arménien et sortent même un bouteille qu'ils avaient prévu d’ouvrir en ce dernier jour, très touchant ! Glenn Smith est amené à nous décrire son parcours et j'apprends donc, qu'en plus de vivre en France près de Monaco, il est ingénieur système dans une entreprise spécialisé dans la fabrication de planétariums. Ça en jette sévère. Il sera même sur Toulouse 2 jours plus tard, à la Cité de l'Espace, pour un appel à projet ! Lynda, professeure, nous demandera à chacun le nom d'un album qu'on peut mettre en boucle pour ses prochains road trip. Bien qu'éprise de NIN, je lui soumets le premier album des Dresden Dolls. Ce n'est qu'une fois rentrée que je me rends compte que David J. Eicher, son mari, est l'éditeur en chef d'Astronomy magazine ! Alors oui, je me régale des articles du magazine partagés sur leur fb, je like même de courtes vidéos de David depuis plus d'un an, mais non, mon cerveau n'a pas fait la connexion ! Je me flagelle un peu forcément, mais je ne suis que joie de rencontrer ces personnes dans ce contexte si particulier et agréable.
C'est ainsi que se termine ma folle semaine. Je me rendrai à l'aéroport le lendemain, avant le lever du soleil, avec Bob, dont j'apprendrai un peu plus de sa vie assez folle de guitariste !
C'est donc un mois après la fin de Starmus que j'aurais enfin terminé de résumer cette édition. Encore merci à Birchbox et Natacha Birds pour cette opportunité; à ce beau groupe rencontré sur place: Laura, Johnny, Ilya, Alexandra, Bob; à ces conférenciers passionnants et à ces rencontres aussi sympathiques qu'incroyables. Je crois que je comprends enfin ce qu'est la nostalgie après tout ça !
This Saturday, Starmus being finished, I prepared myself to enjoy the area to spend time (I had noticed parachute pulled by a boat, dive with turtles, see a zoo with birds shows...) but I was with people I would never have come across otherwise, and it was perfect to end this crazy adventure!
We go again in the hotel with breakfast at will, and 'free'. Some speakers are still present, like Starmus organizer, Garik Israelian to the table in front of me.
Laura then tracked down a huge room (a pearl of resourcefulness and daring, Johnny warned me) to expose her brainLight project she carried in a small format. We test it, as several curious speakers (Elizabeth Blackburn, Robert J. Sawyer, Joel Parker and Kim H ...) and it was really interesting to see the spatial distribution and the variation of the electric flow from everyone. We were pretty amazed to see how the speakers brains seemed quiet compared to ours. Garrett Reisman (astronaut now director of space operations at SpaceX) unfortunately came a little late to test the project with his son.
At noon we head to take a cocktail all together (Ilya, Alexandra, Bob, Johnny and Laura) when Joel and Kim come tolunch. In a second, my friends still so friendly invite them to join us, and they agree for our greatest pleasure. We learn more about their lives, their respective professions. Joel is launched on an explanation of the Penrose conference, deriving the abstract relation of Math and its connection with reality (does the result luckily coincide with reality or is it because it is based on it? - I was happy because I finally spoke on this subject while I was enjoying the moment and their words in a quiet way). We also discuss new trends "wellness" like massages, meditation and power of stones. Lunch even richer than expected!
The afternoon is quiet. We sit in the luxurious communal lounge of the hotel and I write some postcards while some are calling, chatting, hanging around or recording their radio show. A musician (I don't remember his name) suggest us to come and listen to one of his piano composition. It was really beautiful, but we did not really get to enjoy it because we arrived a bit late. But it is time for us to leave from here.
Leaving our lunch, Laura had met Glenn Smith (to whom I revealed my raven tattoo he was curious to see ^^) and invited him to join us in the evening. So we meet him again, along with Lynda and David J. Eicher. And here I am, enjoying the magic of the relationships that my friends have woven! Ilya and Alexandra offer us Armenian leather fruit and even leave a bottle they had planned to open on the last day, very touching! Glenn Smith is brought to describe his career and I'm learning so that in addition to living in France near Monaco, is a systems engineer in a company specialized in planetariums. That's quite awesome. He will even be Toulouse 2 days later, in La Cité de l'Espace, to a call for projects ! Lynda, Professor, asks us the name of an album that can be looped for their upcoming road trips. Although I'm all about NIN, I give her the first album of Dresden Dolls. It is only once back home I realize that David J. Eicher, her husband, is the chief editor of Astronomy magazine! So yes, I enjoy the articles of the magazine shared their fb, I also like short videos with David for over a year, but no, my brain did not make the connection! I flagellum a bit inevitably, but I am only joy to meet these people in this so special and enjoyable context .
Thus ends my crazy week. I will go to the airport the next day, before sunrise, with Bob, I learn a little more of his quite crazy guitarist life!
It is a month after the end of Starmus I could finally finished summarize this edition. Again thank you to Birchbox and Natacha Birds for this opportunity; this beautiful group met on site: Laura, Johnny, Ilya, Alexandra, Bob; these exciting speakers and these meetings as friendly as inbelievable. I think I finally understand what nostalgia is after all!
